Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 has done some more tinkering this year but this time, the planets appear to have aligned just right. The issues with swing sensitivity are answered with a swing feedback meter, which clearly illustrates any deficiencies in your swing. As you pull back on the stick, you see a little glowing trail in the lower left that shows exactly how steady your thumb is (most likely nowhere near as steady as you think). The instant feedback does wonders for those wishing to learn proper technique.

A recent case in the British Medical Journal revealed that ear specialists suspect the “sonic boom” the metal club head makes when it strikes the ball damaged the hearing of a 55-year-old golfer they treated.

The golfer had been playing with a King Cobra LD titanium club three times a week for 18 months and commented that the noise of the club hitting the ball was “like a gun going off”.

Physicians at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital carried out tests on the golfer after he attended their clinic with unexplained tinnitus and reduced hearing in his right ear.

The tests confirmed that his hearing problems were typical of those seen with exposure to loud noises.

The Physicians decided to recruit a professional golfer to hit shots with six thin-faced titanium clubs from manufacturers such as King Cobra, Callaway
, Nike and Mizuno.

All produced a louder noise than standard thicker stainless steel drivers.

The worst offender was the Ping G10
at over 130 decibels.

The Physicians said wearing earplugs would solve the problem, but said players use the noise as feedback to assess how they are playing and how well their equipment is performing. “So it might not work for all.”

The new 907 D2 is an advanced moment-of-inertia driver designed to provide distance with shot workability and control. The advanced traditional geometry increases the overall inertia but allows the player to dictate the shot shape and work the ball with a fade or draw if desired. The multi-material design of the 907 D2 and enhanced moment-of-inertia provide distance and solid feel, while the traditional profile, square set-up, symmetric face and improved crown shape provide for outstanding looks in the playing position for players that want and appreciate looks, feel and performance.

Review:

If you are a low handicapper then you should check out this solid driver from Titleist. I’ve used several different drivers (TaylorMade, Callaway, Cleveland) but I’m keep coming back to Titleist because of their consistant performance and feel. I’ve been using Titleist 905R for the past 8 months but after I tried out 907 D2 it was very easy choice. I spent about an hour on the launch monitor trying out different shaft options and I liked Aldila VS Proto best for it’s consistancy and feel. I used to drive around 255 yd with 905R but now I’m hitting at least 10 to 15 yd longer mainly due to lower spin rate. Much more forgiving than my 905R.

Callaway FT-5 Driver Description
FT-5 and FT-5 Tour Drivers are the latest evolution in clubhead design utilizing the revolutionary Fusion Technology. A huge 50 grams of discretionary weight has been created using a Carbon Fiber Body — creating the OptiFit Weighting System that produces three center of gravity configurations: Draw, Neutral and Fade, enabling golfers to choose a combination to best suit their individual game. The larger, more robust CT/VFT Titanium cup face is designed to the legal limit, as defined by the USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness — even on miss-hits. The FT-5 Tour Driver has a slightly open face for a look preferred by more accomplished players. The end result is exceptional distance, performance, confidence and accuracy.

The Fusion Technology
Proprietary Fusion Technology creates an unprecedented 50 grams of discretionary weight which is strategically positioned for a high Moment of Inertia and precise lateral location of the center of gravity. This provides exceptional stability on off-center hits, while enabling ball flight customization for optimal individual performance. The 25-gram weight located at the rear of the driver lowers the CG for optimal trajectory.

The OptiFit Weighting System
Enables golfers to customize their driver by giving them three CG locations to choose from in most lofts: Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade; Neutral for maximum workability; or Fade for promoting a fade or reducing a hook/draw.

The TaylorMade Burner is deeper from front to back than any driver head in the history of the company. Adding further forgiveness is the three rear weight pads . The big differences for the Burner may be that it’s lighter and longer than most clubs. Fujikura furnishes the The REAX shaft which is an inch longer than standard at 46 inches but weighs only 50 grams. The total club weight is 10 percent lighter (299 grams) than standard. Their intent is to get you swinging faster.

I’ve had the pleasure of playing more than a 10 rounds with the Burner and have found the club delivers on all of the hype. If you have a constant patterned swing it produces a strong high ball flight thats accurate and dependable. But if you have a swing that is different every time and the ball flight is unique to every swing, the Burner will help smooth out some of the extremes. The club will help you to keep it strait but the Burner can’t perform miracles. Don’t drop those lessons just yet.

Nothing is more important than proper alignment when it comes to putting. Set up misaligned, your likelihood of sinking a putt greatly diminishes, no matter how clean and practiced your stroke may be. Cleveland Golf feels, the key to becoming proficient at aligning putts first requires that your eyes be directly above the ball, thus helping to better see the intended target line. Cleveland Golf’s new VP (Visual Performance) Putters ($119-$129) are designed with key features specifically to help golfers see whether or not their eyes are properly aligned over the ball before every putt.

VP Putters use what’s called Dual Axis Alignment technology, which consists of carefully considered alignment indicators that, unless aligned perfectly, become visible so the golfer can correct any misaligned eye or hand positions while set up over the ball. More features designed to foster proper alignment include three options of models, hosel styles and lengths, as well as three variations of lie angle. Each VP Putter also features a Winn grip and a soft elastomer insert for a positive feedback.
